Ingredients:
Fish – 250g (I used neymeen)
Onion – 1 small (Thinly sliced)
Ginger – 1 big piece (Crushed)
Green chilly – (Slit open)
Curry leaves
Turmeric powder - ¾ tbsp
Tomato – 2 (Chopped)
Tamarind - (Soaked and juice extracted)
Salt
Oil
To grind:
Grated coconut – ½ of a coconut / 3-4 handfuls
Dry red chilly
For tempering:
Coconut Oil
Onion / Shallots
Dried red Chillies
Turmeric powder - ¼ tbsp
Curry leaves
Steps:
Make a fine paste out of coconut and dry red chilly adding some water.
Heat oil in a claypot.
Add onion, ginger, green chilly and curry leaves.
When the onion starts to brown, add turmeric powder. Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
Add the coconut paste and water, as required for the gravy.
Add tomato and salt.
Cover and bring it to boil.
Add fish. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
Swirl the curry. Do not use spoon after adding fish.
Cover and cook for another 5 minutes.
Once the fish is cooked, add tamarind juice.
