Iran coach Dragan Skocic called Mehdi Taremi a 'great player' on Wednesday despite dropping the Porto striker from his squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lebanon and Syria. Taremi has scored 10 goals for the Portuguese league leaders this season which led Skocic to say: 'We need a player like him but at the same time we have also some values what we have to respect.' Iran face Lebanon on Thursday before their match against Syria in Amman, Jordan the following Tuesday. Skocic's side have 10 points from their first four games and are two points clear of South Korea. The top two are guaranteed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Iran are looking to progress to a third consecutive World Cup and their sixth in total.
